ETHICS AND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

The European Charter for Researchers, to which research centers such as CNRS are committed, defines the responsibility of researchers as follows:

“Researchers need to be aware that they are accountable towards their employers, funders or other related public or private bodies as well as, on more ethical grounds, towards society as a whole.”

Research is governed by laws and regulations. Some of these laws result from European Directives, including those that regulate in the use of animals for scientific purposes, the use of genetically modified organisms, and specific regulation on the use, exchange and storage of human and animal tissue in research.
