Protein Sciences Facility
PRESENTATION
The Protein Science Facility (PSF) provides access to a wide range of services and expertise related to protein engineering. The diversity of equipment and methodologies offered allows non-specialist teams to develop new experimental strategies for functional studies of their proteins of interest. It is located in the IBCP (Institute of Protein Biology and Chemistry) and is open to academic and private laboratories.
The platform is ISO 9001:2015 certified and IBiSA labeled with the ANABIO-MS (ANAlysis of BIOmolecules by Mass Spectrometry) team located within the ISA (Institute of Analytical Sciences).

The two groups complement each other in terms of expertise in mass spectrometry. This partnership strengthens the development of mass spectrometry in Lyon and expands the range of services offered by PSF at the highest level of technology.
PSF is referenced on the MEANS portal of the University of Lyon.
Protein Science Facility (PSF) is made up of 3 centres dedicated to:
Equipped with 2 automated purification systems (AKTAs PURE), and several biophysical protein characterisation equipment (DLS, SEC-MALS, TSA, CD, Typhoon, Nanodrop), our facility offers production of pure and homogeneous proteins from recombinant plasmid. The Liberty One CEM equipment also allows us to offer a peptide synthesis service. Finally, we have the JESS Biotechne/Protein Simple automated western blot system.
The Mass Spectrometry department, equipped with two mass spectrometers, develops analytical protocols for proteomic analysis, enabling the identification and characterisation of post-translational modifications, relative quantification of proteins, and molecular mass measurement. We also offer bioinformatics support by developing custom tools to help you exploit proteomic data.
PSF offers protein folding analyses by circular dichroism as well as characterisations by light scattering (DLS, SEC-MALS), by thermal denaturation (TSA, NanoDSF, CD).
Studies of molecular interactions by interferometry (BLITZ) are also possible as well as collaborations with the MMSB unit for the use of microcalorimetry or thermophoresis.
In addition, PSF provides robotic equipment for crystallographers and offers collaborations on protein structural study projects. PSF can handle projects from recombinant plasmids to X-ray crystal diffraction tests. Data processing and crystallographic structure analysis are then carried out in collaboration with a crystallographer associated with the project.
