“ How to write and publish scientific articles ”

Serena BRADDE (editor of the journal PRXlife)
Hôte : Dana El Meaouch

On the 1st and 2nd of July, Serena Bradde, editor of the journal PRXlife will visit us from USA. PRXlife is an open access journal that publishes impactful research at the intersection of biology and physics, computer science, mathematics, and engineering.

Serena will give two presentations:

1st of july-salle des thèses- 11am-12pm: the seminar will be dedicated to students and postdocs
2nd of july-salle des thèses-2- 3pm: the seminar will be addressed to everyone (students, postdocs, researchers, engineers)

These seminars will focus on how to write and publish scientific articles, and will also serve as an introduction to the journal PRX Life.

“ Unravelling how the signal peptidase complex selects its targets ”

Hyun (Joy) KIM (School of Biological Sciences, Seoul National University, South Korea)
Hôte : Paulo Telles de Souza

Secretory proteins are critically dependent on the correct processing of their signal sequence by the signal peptidase complex (SPC). This step, which is essential for the proper folding and localization of proteins in eukaryotic cells, is still not fully understood. By combining cleavage profiling of a set of natural and designed signal sequences with molecular dynamics simulations, our data show how Spc1 and Spc2, two non-catalytic subunits modulate the functional properties of the yeast SPC and its immediate membrane environment, enhancing its ability to discriminate between different types of signal sequences. These results provide new insights into the molecular mechanisms by which SPC governs protein biogenesis.
