Genetically Modified Organisms

The French law 92-654 of 13 July 1992 relative to the control of the use and dissemination of genetically modified organisms defines GMOs:

« Genetically modified organisms (GMO) are organisms in which the genetic material has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally by mating and natural recombination»

The research projects carried out in the core facilities of the SFR Biosciences involve GMOs, whether microorganisms for the production of vectors, viral vectors or animal or vegetal organisms hosting genes of interest.

To regulate the use of GMOs the legislation states “Those who operate a facility in which genetically modified organisms are used in containment for research, development or education must file a notification or request the approval by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research”.

GMO and SFR Biosciences

The core facilities of the SFR Biosciences have implemented procedures for the use of genetically modified organisms based on the guidelines of the Haut Conseil des Biotechnologies and of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research ( guide 'O.G.M. en milieu confiné).
