  3. CIRI brings together more than 20 teams, all sharing a common objective:  to fight infectious diseases, the second cause of mortality worldwide.  CIRI provides a multidisciplinary approach with input from microbiology (bacteriology and virology), immunology, cellular biology, clinical research and epidemiology. CIRI has established strong collaborations with industry.





  1. IGFL - Institut de Génomique Fonctionnelle de lyon (The Institute of Functional Genomics of Lyon)

  3. IGFL aims to understand the genetic and molecular mechanisms involved in the development of animals, how they adapt to their environment, and how the genome controls these processes.





  1. LBMC - Laboratoire de Biologie et modelisation de la Cellule (Cell Biology and Modeling Laboratory)

  3. LBMC conducts studies to unravel the molecular basis of cellular processes and programs (division, proliferation, apoptosis, senescence, differentiation,...). The experimental models include yeast, zebrafish, drosophila, nematode, blood cells, human primary cell cultures and cancerous cell lines.





  1. RDP - Laboratoire de Reproduction et Développement des Plantes (Plant Reproduction and Development Laboratory)

  3. The RDP laboratory works on the development of flowering plants and uses multidisciplinary “Systems Biology” approaches that combine genetics, cellular and molecular biology, genomics, biochemistry, biophysics, imaging and mathematical modeling to understand the development and evolution of flower parts, sexual self-incompatibility and the development of seeds.


  1. MMSB - MOlecular microbiology and structural biochemistry

  4. MMSB studies the molecular mechanisms of infectious processes causing severe human diseases, drug resistance and potential therapeutic targets.


  1. LBTI - Laboratoire de Biologie Tissulaire et d'Ingénierie Thérapeutique (Laboratory of Tissue Biology and Therapeutic Engineering)

  3. LBTI combines the efforts of chemists, biochemists, cellular and molecular biologists, physiologists and physicians. With such a multidisciplinary approach, LBTI is able to translate its research activity into clinical applications. LBTI’s main areas of expertise focus on cell and tissue biology of skin and cartilage, as well as the identification of therapeutic targets and tissue vectorization, especially for vaccines.


  1. IVPC - Infections Virales et Pathologie Comparée (Viral infections and Comparative Pathology)

  2. Unité mixte de recherche UMR754 INRA-UCBL-EPHE - Director : Fabienne Archer
  3. IVPC focuses on the pathophysiological, cellular and molecular mechanisms of various retrovirus infections in animals. IVPC’s projects consist of comparative studies of human and animal pathology and have been developed jointly by clinicians and veterinarians. In addition, IVPC investigates how to fight these viruses and how arboviruses replicate in insect vectors and mammal hosts.




  1. IBCP - Institut de Biologie et Chimie des Proteines (Institute of Protein Biology and Chemistry)

  3. The IBCP houses the MMSB and LBTI research units. The institute’s purpose is to manage the facilities, the technological resources and part of the technical staff shared by these two units.

SFR Biosciences contributors

SFR Biosciences operates by pooling resources (facilities, staff, equipment) from 8 contributing research units, altogether 80 teams.

Today, the SFR Biosciences represents more than 900 people: researchers, faculty members, postdocs, PhD students as well as technical and administrative staff.
