PURPOSE
CelluloNet is a Biological Resource Centre (BRC) that preserves and supply cell lines. Currently, the collection retains over 550 cell lines, sometimes unique, constituting valuable models and tools for investigators.
CelluloNet is a member of the French Infrastructure BIOBANQUES (Inserm US13) and implements a quality policy based on the standard NFS96-900, specifically designed for BRCs.
CelluloNet supplies cell line services as well as training.
Some of the cell lines in the collection:
- Cell lines received as part of a biological heritage activity
- Genetically modified cell lines used as study model
- “Control” cell lines for the development of new protocols
- Hybridoma cell lines for the production of monoclonal antibodies
- Cell lines used for research in biology
SERVICES
- Enrichment and management of collections of cell lines from time of collect, preparation, storage up to supply to researchers.
- Better quality control of cell lines
Currently CelluloNet implements a series of quality controls to meet the growing demands of scientific journals, which include the verification of:
- satisfactory growth after thawing,
- absence of mycoplasma contamination,
- authentication by genetic profile of human cell lines (on request),
- expression of a transgene (in collaboration with the supplier or user).
- isotype and production yield of antibodies for a murine hybridoma.
- Collect new cell lines:
The BRC CelluloNet's purpose is first to collect all new cell lines developed by teams contributing to SFR BioSciences to ensure traceability and conservation.
- Supply cell lines:
Cell lines are available for university laboratories and non-profit research laboratories, subject to the conditions stipulated in the deposit contract of each cell line.
- Products derived from cell lines:
Cell line derivatives are produced from the collection of cell lines at CelluloNet: dry residues, proteins, antibodies, cytokines, RNA, DNA.
- Establishment of new cell lines:
In partnership with a research team of the SFR BioSciences, CelluloNet may develop new cell lines. The project must first be submitted to, and validated by, CellluloNet’s Scientific Advisory Board. Examples of new cell lines: GMO cell line overexpressing a protein, immortalization of cells, human B cell lines transformed by Epstein-Barr virus or hybridomas producing monoclonal antibodies.

Equipment managed by CelluloNet:
- A « Labcollector » software developed by AgileBio, customized in-house to manage our collection of cell lines and documentation system.
- A fully equipped BSL-2 cell culture lab (see section “Equipment” below).
- Equipment for the storage of cell lines: containers in liquid nitrogen, gas nitrogen containers and -150°C freezer.

- BSL-2 cell culture lab:
Room with regulated access consisting of an airlock, a sink for washing of hands, laboratory outfits, 2 safety cabinets of 120 cm, a refrigerated centrifuge, 2 CO2 incubators, and one refrigerated incubator, a 4-roller-bottle incubator, a rotary shaker for suspension culture, an inverted fluorescence microscope fitted with camera, a waterbath, two refrigerator-freezers, freezer containers as well as all the usual small laboratory equipment and consumables.
- Equipment for storing cell lines:
Temporary storage in cryoboxes in a freezer at -150°C.
- Equipment that may be taken out:
- Microporator (Neon) and Nucleofector for transfection operations.
- 4-roller-bottle incubator
- Rotary shaker for suspension culture

TRAINING
- Theoretical and practical training in cell line culture, including the regulatory framework.
